The Unsearchable Riches of Christ
(Ephesians 3:1-8)
1. Paul as a person.
– 3:2-5 – he magnifies his person; 3:8 – he emphasises his own unworthiness, ‘the leaster of all the saints’
– 1 Cor.15:9; 1 Tim.1:15; John Bunyan’s autobiography is Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners. Charles Simeon: ‘I would have a conscious unworthiness to pervade every act and habit of my soul.’
2. Paul’s task.
– to proclaim the unsearchable riches of Christ to Gentiles
– Acts 14:11-13 (at Lystra); Acts 16:16-10 (at Philippi); Acts 17:32 (at Athens); Acts 19:24, 26, 28 (at Ephesus); Acts 28:1-6 (on Malta).
3. The grace of God.
– by grace, Paul did this.
