Peter Barnes | Psalm 103 (part 1)
SERMON NOTES
Bless the Lord, O My Soul
Psalm 103; Revelation 4
– Paul Little used to read it when depressed, although note Prov.25:20; Matthew Henry: ‘This Psalm calls more for devotion than exposition.’
1. We need to remind ourselves to praise the Lord.
– David talks to himself (also in Ps.42:5; 104:1; 116:7)
– dangers of ingratitude (Deut.8:11-14)
2. We need to be grateful for all His benefits.
(a) He forgives all our iniquities (v.3a). 1 John 1:7
(b) He heals all our diseases (v.3b). Spurgeon says these are spiritual diseases, but in principle all decay is overcome.
(c) He redeems us from the grave (vv.4-5).
Luke 15:21-23; Isa.40:29-31
– Rom.1:20-21 or Lam.3:22-23
