Knowing God
Psalm 19; Romans 1:18-32
C. S. Lewis called it ‘the greatest poem in the Psalter and one of the greatest lyrics in the world’.
1. Nature declares God’s glory.
– 19:1-6; made known everywhere at all times
– The spacious firmament on high … publishes to every land/ The work of an almighty hand (Joseph Addison)
– Rom.1:20; Acts 14:15-17; 17:24-29
2. The Bible declares God’s will.
– 19:7-11
– God’s Word is perfect, trustworthy, right, pure, true and righteous. It revives, makes wise, rejoices, gives light
– Job 23:12; Jer.15:16; Matt.4:4
3. The conscience applies God’s will.
– 19:12-14; remember Jer.17:9
– I once read Deuteronomy without applying it to myself.
