The Sufficient Word of the LORD (1 Kings 17:2-16)

  1. The word of the LORD is hidden from his people.
    • ‘It was the doing away with the public means of grace which was the sure sign of Divine displeasure.’ – A. W. Pink
  2. The word of the LORD sustains his messenger.
    • ‘If the younger son chooses to go to the far country of his own accord, he may be in danger of dying of starvation among his swine; but if the Father should send him there, he shall have enough and to spare.’ – F. B. Meyer
    • ‘Every servant that God deigns to use must pass through the trying experience of Cherith before he is ready for the triumph of Carmel.’ – A. W. Pink
  3. The word of the LORD extends to the nations.
    • ‘If one could choose, ravens sounded more dependable than widows.’ – Dale Ralph Davis
  4. The word of the LORD saves the faithful.
    • ‘Surely the increase of this widow’s faith, so as to enable her thus readily to deny herself, and to depend upon the Divine promise, was as great a miracle in the kingdom of grace, as the increase of her meal and oil in the kingdom of providence.’ – Matthew Henry
