Peter Barnes | Revelation 4-7
SERMON NOTES
Christ and the Seven Seals
(Revelation 4-7)
William Hendriksen sees a series of seven snapshots, each saying much the same thing
1. Christ, the Lamb-Lion, is the key to all history.
– Rev. 4 – vision of the whole church in heaven
– only the Lamb-Lion is worthy to open the scroll of God’s plan (for the seven spirits, see Zech.4:10). The Lamb suffers and the Lion conquers.
2. God’s judgments are seen throughout history.
– the first six seals are all judgments, although some interpret 6:1-2 to refer to Christ
– war, famine, pestilence and death
3. The terrible wrath of the Lamb.
– 6:12-17 – the wrath that could have been mercy.
4. The redeemed are sealed by God forever.
– Rev.7 – a number known by God but cannot be counted by us (cf. Gen.15:5).
– 7:15-17 – the goal of all history
