Peter Barnes | Ezekiel 10
SERMON NOTES
THE GLORY DEPARTS FROM THE TEMPLE
Ezekiel 10; Revelation 2:1-7
– Moses’ desire for God’s presence and glory (Ex.33:14-20)
1. The glory of God appears in Christ.
– 10:1-2, 9-17; reminiscent of the vision in Ezekiel 1
– Isa. 6:1-2 refers to Christ (John 12:40-41); note John 1:14; 2 Cor.4:6
2. Judgment comes upon the people of God in the city of God.
– 10:2; not purging of forgiveness as in Isa.6:6-7, but of judgment as in Gen.19:24. Yet Psalms 48 and 87 refer to Jerusalem as the city of God!
– Rev.5:12, 5; 6:15-16; the lion is the lamb, the Saviour is the Judge.
3. Apart from Christ, we can do nothing.
– 18:18-19; 11:23 (returns in 43:1-2)
– Psalm 132:13-14; Charles Spurgeon told of a little girl who prayed: ‘Thank You Lord for our time at church tonight. I wish You could have been there.’ Note Rev.2:5; 3:16.
– Ichabod (1 Sam.4:18-22) or Immanuel (Matt.1:23)
