WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?
Psalm 32; Acts 16:16-34
– Paul in gaol, and an earthquake strikes
1. A Christian is one who becomes convicted of sin, death, and judgment.
– 16:29-30; he trembles (see 2:37)
– Charles Simeon after a drunken man was killed after a fall from a horse: ‘Why not me?’ William Wilberforce spoke of his early life as consisting of ‘shapeless idleness’.
2. A Christian is one who believes on the Lord Jesus.
– 17:31-32; Acts 2:36-38; Rom.10:9
– no salvation by sincerity or works
3. A Christian is a changed person.
– 16:33-34;
– he believes; he acted kindly; he and his family are baptized (see Acts 16:15); and he has a new sense of joy.
