SERMON  NOTES
THE MURDEROUS HEART OF SAUL
1 Samuel 22:6-23

Evil is unleashed.

1. Saul’s murderous heart.

– 22:6-8. Saul is paranoid here, and manipulative.

– he plays the victim and acts the bully (22:11-16)

– even his servants (‘runners’) hesitate to obey him (22:17)

– Henry II on Thomas Becket: ‘Who will rid me of this troublesome priest?’

2. The treachery of the ungodly.

– 21:7; 22:9-10, 18-19; he puts Nob under the ban.

– God uses evil to carry out His just and good will (see 2:31-33; illustrated in the cross in Acts 4:27-28)

3. The regrets of the godly.

– 22:20-23; it goes back to 21:2

– we all have regrets, but the past cannot be re-lived. David does what he can in verse 23

– writes Psalm 52
