David and Goliath
1 Samuel 17:1-30, 31-58
– David volunteers to fight
1. The world’s disdain for believers.
– Eliab resented David; Saul thought him too inexperienced; but Goliath considered him beneath contempt (17:42-44)
– see Acts 17:32a; 26:24; Celsus in the second century mocked Christians
– Evolutionists often do not debate; they just mock.
2. Use what gifts and experiences you have.
– 17:34-37; David used means and God gave him victory; for the sling, see Judges 20:16
– do not use what does not suit you (17:38-40).
3. The victory of faith.
– 17:45-47; this is not bravado but faith
– Ps.3:6; Prov.18:10; Rom.8:31; 1 John 5:4
– salvation for Israel, and a proclamation to the whole world.
– David represents Israel and emboldens Israel.
