Peter Barnes | Psalm 34:8-14
SERMON NOTES
TASTE AND SEE!
Psalm 34:8-14
Derek Kidner calls this a ‘glowing Psalm’; for context, see 1 Samuel 21.
1. Experience the living God.
– 34:8; this is a wonderful invitation (see 1 Peter 2:1-3)
– Ps.16:11; 119:103; we are not to describe honey so much as taste it
– John 1:41, 43-46 – ‘come and see’ is powerful evangelism
2. God provides for His people.
– 34:9-10; Columba died in 597 soon after he was writing out this verse.
– in 1 Sam. 21 David needed food and protection
– the fear of God takes away other fears
3. God requires goodness from His people.
– 34:11-14; all humanity wants to be happy and live good days; see Augustine’s Confessions.
– in word (34:13) and deed (34:14); to seek good is to depart from evil (Prov.8:13; 16:6)
