Peter Barnes | Romans 16:25-27
SERMON NOTES
GLORY TO GOD THROUGH CHRIST
(Romans 16:25-27)
– one long sentence (although Paul has written longer!)
1. God is able to strengthen us.
– 16:25a; NKJV and NIV have ‘establish’ but it is more like ‘strengthen’ as in Rom.1:11
– God is able in Eph.3:20 and Jude 24; we all need strengthening each day.
2. God strengthens us through His Word.
– 16:25-26; ‘mystery’ as in Rom.11:25; it is something that is being revealed.
– Rev.14:6
3. This is to bring about the obedience of faith and glory to God.
(a) obedience to the faith (16:26c; see 1:5). Faith is the root and obedience the fruit of the gospel.
(b) glory to God – 16:27; Paul stops and does likewise in 11:33-36
– no glory to our works or our decision (3:28; 9:15-16); see Rev.5:13 for the picture of heaven.
