Peter Barnes | Matthew 10:32-33
SERMON NOTES
CONFESSING OR DENYING CHRIST
Daniel 6; Matthew 10:32-33
– Romans 12:1 looks back to God’s mercies; Matthew 10:32-33 looks ahead to His judgment – two Christian motives.
1. We must confess Christ on earth.
– ‘confess’ is probably better than ‘acknowledge’
– Acts 4:15-18, 19-20
– secret disciples in John 19:38-39 but only for a time; the Insider Movements are damaging to the gospel.
2. Christ will then confess us before His Father in heaven.
– God in His majesty in Rev.4:8; 11:17-19; 21:27
– but we have a mediator (1 Tim.2:5) and an advocate (1 John 2:1)
3. If we deny Him on earth, He will deny us before His Father in heaven.
– Peter is restored after Matt.26:69-75; also Kim Yoonsup in Korea, who died in prison in 1943
Spurgeon: ‘Lord, let me never blush to own thee in all companies!’
