WASHING OUR ROBES
John 20:19-31; Revelation 22:12-15
– this is all based on the resurrection
1. We will be judged according to our works.
– 22:12; Eccles.12:14; Matt.7:21-23; 16:27; Rev.20:12-15
– this is meant to be a frightening prospect
2. The judge will be the eternal Christ.
– 22:13; John 5:28-29
– titles for God are attributed to Christ (Isa.44:6; John 8:58-59; Rev.1:17-18)
– the creator is the judge (John 1:3)
3. We need to wash our robes.
– 22:14 (ESV, NIV) in the present tense; Rev.7:14 is in the past (aorist) tense. We are washed at first in conversion, then need to be continually washed.
– outside the Garden and the city are the unholy (22:15; cf. Deut.23:18; Matt.7:6; Phil.3:2).
– be washed and the tree of life is yours – life forever.
