SERMON NOTES
ARISE FOR GLORY SHINES
Isaiah 60:1-9; Matthew 4:12-25
– Isaiah is fond of the ‘light’ imagery (2:5; 5:20; 9:2; 10:17; 49:6; 51:4).

– 60:2; 1 John 5:19; note Matt.4:15-16
– Bonhoeffer: ‘One is distressed by the failure of reasonable people to perceive either the depths of evil or the depths of the holy.’
2. The glory of the Lord will be seen.
– 60:1-3; this is the true Zion of Heb.12:22-24
– 60:5b-7; Matt.2:11; Isa.60:8-9
– Christ is the light has come (60:1; John 8:12), the glory (60:1; John 1:14), full of majesty (60:3, 6, 9; 2 Peter 1:16-17), the greater temple (60:7; John 2:19-21).
3. The promise of great blessing.
– 60:1-2, 5, 7b; the Light will radiate on God’s people which will now include Gentiles.
– 2 Cor.4:4-6
