Peter Barnes | Isaiah 40:6-8
SERMON NOTES
GOD’S WORD IS FOREVER
Isaiah 40:6-8; 1 Peter 1:10-25
– contrast between us and God’s Word
1. We are unreliable and mortal.
– 40:6-8; perhaps in the month of May
– the Bible often tells us this (Ps.90:5-6; 103:15-16)
– or clay (Isa.64:8) or a passing mist (James 4:14)
– Christopher Hitchens wanted to die as a blasphemer; he died in 2011
2. God’s Word is reliable and eternal.
– 40:8; see Ps.33:6, 9; Matt.24:35
– many attacks down through history; in the Great Persecution of 303-311 Bibles were ‘surrendered’ and burnt; Marcus Dods said that belief in the verbal inspiration of Scripture is heretical!
– Heb.6:18
– John Wesley: ‘O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God!’
– Psalm 73:26
