SERMON NOTES
THE WAGES OF SIN
2 Kings 19:29-37; Revelation 5:1-14
1. God encourages the remnant.
– 19:29-31; by the third year life will be ‘normal’.
– the zeal of the Lord of hosts achieves this (as in Isa.9:6-7)
2. God acts for the sake of David.
– 19:32-34; see Prov.29:1.
– in Jeremiah’s day, a hundred years’ later, this became a superstitious trust (cf. Jer.7:1-8)
– great David’s greater Son in Luke 1:32-33
3. God calls His enemies to account.
– 19:35-36; Sennacherib had boasted of ‘the terror-inspiring splendour of my lordship’!
– 19:37; he learnt no more than Pharaoh did; in 681 B.C. he was possibly worshipping the fire god who was the son of the moon god.
– God saves His people and calls His enemies to account.
