SERMON NOTES
THE MOCKERY OF UNBELIEF
2 Kings 18:26-37; 2 Cor. 11:1-15
– the Rabshakeh continues his mocking speech.
1. We ought not to be unnerved by the world.
– 18:26-27; the request in v.26 is naïve as v.28 shows
– the enemies of God’s people are only flesh and blood (Isa.40:15); expect opposition (John 15:24-25; 1 Cor.2:14)
2. Do not be deceived by false promises.
– 18:31-32; that would never happen
– be wary of being deceived (2 Cor. 11:13-15; Gen.3:4-6)
3. Do not be a party to false divisions.
– four times the Rabshakeh puts Hezekiah down (18:29,30,31,32)
– 18:36-37; thankfully, the Judeans did not crack
4. Stand up to those who mock true faith.
– 18:33-35; the assumption is that Yahweh is like all the other ineffective gods
– Not so! See Isa.42:8; 48:9-11
