DO NOT FEAR THE WORLD
2 Kings 19:1-7; 2 Tim. 1:1-12
– Hezekiah looks to the prophet of God
1. In distress, turn to God.
– 19:1-4; in all circumstances (Ps.103) but especially in distress
– sign of grief in Jonah 3:5, 8; Dan.9:3; Neh.9:1; Isaiah has probably already preached Isaiah 14:24-27
– the Rabshakeh is like Goliath in 1 Sam.17:26, 36-37, 45
– only the remnant is saved (Isa.37:30-32)
2. Do not fear the world.
– 19:5-6; see Gen.15:1; 1 Kings 17:13; 2 Kings 6:16; Matt.8:26; 10:26, 28
– faith and fear are opposed to one another
3. God will judge His enemies.
– 19:7; so it happened in 19:37
– Ex.15:9-10; Athanasius saw Julian the Apostate as ‘a small cloud which will soon pass’.
