Peter Barnes | Judges 16
SERMON NOTES
SAMSON’S REMARKABLE DEATH (Judges 16)
– an illustration of 1 Cor.10:12; 2 Tim.2:13
1. Christians can fail to learn from their own sin and God’s chastening.
– 16:1-3 – more sin
– 16:4-16 – he does not learn (cf. 14:16-17)
– like Abraham in Gen.12:10-20 and 20:1-7, 11-12
– are you awake to your own sins?
2. Sin costs us dearly.
– 16:18-20; contrast to 14:6, 19; 15:14
– like Hosea 7:9; even Saul was aware in 1 Sam.28:15
– 1 Cor.9:24-27 is to the Christian
– what matters is not the power of Dagon but the absence of the Lord
3. God overrules in human sin.
– 16:23-31; the God of all grace even in the deepest pit of sin.
