Peter Barnes | Luke 24:13-35
SERMON NOTES
THE ROAD TO EMMAUS
Psalm 118; Luke 24:13-35
1. Our gloom when we do not grasp Christ’s resurrection.
– the two were despondent and downcast; they saw the cross as the end (unlike John 12:27-28a); can only confess Jesus as a prophet (v.19)
– no wishful thinking here
2. Christ’s suffering and glory are portrayed in the Old Testament.
– 24:25-27; suffering in Ps.118:22; Isa.53:3-5
– glory in Ps.110:1; Daniel 7:13-14
– effect in Luke 24:32
3. ‘Was blind but now I see’.
– 24:28-31; not the Last Supper because Cleopas was not there; see Luke 9:16
– 24:33-35; 1 Peter 1:3
