Peter Barnes | Luke 2:11
SERMON NOTES
THE ANGEL’S PROCLAMATION (Luke 2:11)
Micah 5:1-5a; Luke 2:1-20
– a message to all (2:10)
1. The baby is born in Bethlehem.
– 2:11; that day is not necessarily 25 December
– David was born in Bethlehem (1 Sam.16:1) and the Messiah would come from there (Micah 5:2)
– ‘Bethlehem’ means ‘house of bread’ (see John6:33, 35, 50-51, 58)
– shepherds did not rank highly (e.g. Gen.46:34); very different to Kim Jong-il, the ‘Dear Leader’.
2. The baby is the Saviour.
– 2:11; Matt.1:21
– He did not come to save angels but us (Heb.9:27; Acts 4:12)
– This came by His death and resurrection (1 Cor.15:1-4)
3. The baby is Christ the Lord.
– 2:11; Christ is the Messiah, the Anointed One (Dan.9:24-25)
– Lord in Luke 1:43; the shepherds believed (2:15-20)
