SERMON NOTES
REMEMBER CHRIST RISEN
(2 Timothy 2:8-10)
– this is Paul’s last epistle (2 Tim.4:6), written to a somewhat sickly and perhaps timid man (1 Tim.5:23; 1 Cor.16:10-11; 2 Tim.1:6-7).
1. Remember Christ risen.
– 2:8; like Luke 17:32
– the context is not evangelism as in Acts 17:31-32; Paul is reminding Timothy of what he already knows.
2. Remember Christ risen in affliction.
– 2:9; see Phil.1:13-14
– our circumstances do not dictate our usefulness or happiness
3. Remember Christ risen for the sake of others.
– 2:10; note the ‘therefore’.
– see Acts 16:25-34. Paul was in gaol in order to reach one of the elect.
– John Ryland is supposed to have told William Carey to sit down
– we do not ‘run’ in salvation (Rom.9:15-16) but we do ‘run’ in evangelism (Rom.10:14)
– 1 Cor.15:58
