WOMEN ELDERS?
1 Tim. 2:11-15; 1 Cor. 11:2-16
– how the church is to run (1 Tim.3:15)
1. Women are not to officially and publicly teach men or have authority over them.
– 1 Tim.2:11-12; equal in Gen.1:27; Gal.3:28 but not in function
– teach children (Prov.1:8; 2 Tim.1:5; 3:15); other women (Tit.2:3-5); can be deacons (Rom.16:1-2); can teach men informally (Acts 18:26)
– prophetesses in Ex.15:20; 2 Kings 22:14-15; Isa.8:3; Luke 2:36; Acts 21:9
2. There is a creation order.
– 2:13-14 – Adam created first and Eve fell first
– 1 Cor.11:8-9
3. The role of mothers.
– 2:15; could refer to the birth of the Child (Jesus) but probably a general statement about what most women do.
– fits in with Eph.5:22-24; Col.3:18; Tit.2:5; 1 Peter 3:1
