– 1 John 3:14; J. C. Ryle: ‘Of all the commands of our Master there is none which is so much talked about and so little obeyed as this.’
1. A new commandment.

– hence Rom.12:9-10; 1 Pet.1:22; Gal.5:6
2. A new example.
– 13:34; Christ is the one who makes the commandment new.
– Acts 10:38; John 17:9; Eph.5:25
– John 11:35; 15:12-14; 13:1; Larry Crabb says the opposite to love is self-protection
3. A new witness.
– 13:35; Tertullian: ‘See, they say, how they love another.’
– people invariably feel the atmosphere before they imbibe the doctrines.
– 2 Cor.3:2-3; Christians are the book that non-Christians read.
