THE LAND RESTORED
Joel 2:18-27
– John 3:17
1. God’s jealous pity.
– 2:18; God is jealous for His name (cf. Deut.4:23-24; 32:19-21; Ezek.39:25; Zech.1:14).
– God has pity on His people. The same word is used in Exodus 2:5-6.
2. We are to fear not and rejoice.
– 2:21-23; we are not to be afraid of the unbelieving world, and are to be a joyful people.
– look at the scope of God’s call – to the land (2:21), to the beasts (2:22), and to the people (2:23).
3. God promises His favour.
– 2:25; Robert Flockhart as a street preacher in Edinburgh wanted to serve Christ for longer than he had served the devil. He did!
Be still my soul; thy Jesus can repay;
From His own fulness, all He takes away.
– God repays (Job 42:10-13); Mary Matheson on the island of Tanna from 1858-1862: ‘One moment in heaven will amply compensate for all we have suffered here.’
