SERMON NOTES
MY WORD SHALL NEVER PASS AWAY
Jeremiah 36:1-32
– in the Great Persecution of 303-311 the Roman emperors sought to destroy all copies of the Bible.
1. How we got the Bible.
– 36:1-8; God spoke to Jeremiah who spoke to Baruch
– God’s Word (36:6,8, 11) = Jeremiah’s word (36:10, 18); God’s word has human authors and a divine author (2 Peter 1:21).
– warnings of judgment are meant to lead sinners to repentance (36:3, 7)
2. The unregenerate hate God’s Word.
– 36:16, but King Jehoiakim is not happy with Jeremiah and Baruch (36:19; for Jehoiakim see 22:13-17)
– 36:20-24; Rom.8:7; Acts 17:32; compare to his father Josiah in 2 Kings 22:11, 18-19
3. God preserves His word.
– 36:27-32; Ps.119:89; Matt.24:35; D. L. Moody at mockers: ‘I would as soon play with forked lightning.’
– Luke 11:27-28
