Peter Barnes | Romans 15:17-19a
SERMON NOTES
CHRIST’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN PAUL
(Romans 15:17-19a)
– based on Rom.15:16
1. Paul boasts of Christ’s work through him.
– 15:17-18a
– Paul glories in the cross (Gal.6:14) – like Isaac Watts!
– but the principle is extended in 1 Cor.1:30-31; 2 Cor.10:16-17
– 1 Cor.15:9-10 tells of grace for salvation and for work
– Acts 1:1 says that Christ’s work continues in His people.
2. Christ used Paul in word.
– 15:18; ‘what I have said’ (NIV) but it is a noun
– in 1630 John Livingstone preached the same sermon a week apart with many conversions the first week and nothing the second week.
– 1 Cor.2:4-5; 1 Thess. 1:5; Acts18:4
3. Christ used Paul in deed.
– 15:18b-19a; God does this through Christ and the Holy Spirit
– e.g. Acts 13:6-12; 14:1-3
– Christ saves and continues to work through His people.
