1. Repentance demands that we amend our ways.

2. Trusting in a false hope.
– 7:4; see Ps.132:13-16 but it is understood in a complacent way.

3. Learning the lessons.
– two history lessons:
(a) Shiloh (7:12-14; see 1 Sam.4:2-11; Ps.78:58-61)
(b) the loss of the ten northern tribes to Assyria in 722 B.C. (7:15; 2 Kings 17)
