Peter Barnes | Psalm 15
SERMON NOTES
WHO DWELLS WITH GOD?
(Psalm 15)
– like Ps.24:3-6; Isa.33:14-17; this is also taught in the New Testament (Heb.12:14; Tit.1:16)
1. Our goal is to dwell with God.
– 15:1; God speaks of dwelling with His people (Lev.26:11-12; Ezek.37:27; Rev.21:3)
– Charles Spurgeon: ‘Without uprightness of walk we are not fit for the imperfect church on earth, and certainly we must not hope to enter the perfect church above.’
2. Only the blameless can dwell with God.
– 15:2-5a; see James 3:2, 10 for the tongue
– 15:4b is not referring to Judges 11:30-31, 34-35; Mark 6:22-28, but is telling us to prize integrity over convenience
– Deut.23:19; see Gehazi’s greed in 2 Kings 5:15-16, 20-27
3. God assures the blameless that they will dwell with Him.
– 15:5b; who fits? Psalm 14:3 says no one.
– only Christ and those who are by grace in Christ
