Peter Barnes | Isaiah 40:12-26
SERMON NOTES
SOVEREIGN CREATOR AND COUNSELLOR
Isaiah 40:12-26; Revelation 4:1-11
– A. W. Tozer: ‘The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble, as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. The low view of God entertained almost universally among Christians is the cause of a hundred lesser evils everywhere among us. A whole new philosophy of the Christian life has resulted from this one basic error in our religious thinking.’
1. God is the sovereign creator.
– 40:12, 15-17, 21-24
– Spurgeon said that an unbelieving astronomer was mad!
2. God is self-sufficient in His wisdom.
– 40:13-14; Ps.19:7; someone belting out ‘Chopsticks’ does not presume to teach Johann Sebastian Bach
3. God is incomparable.
– 40:18-20, 25; only like a rock (Deut.32:4); a human father (Ps.103:13); or a hen (Luke 13:34) in a very limited sense
– we are a drop in the bucket, dust on the scales, less than nothing, grasshoppers, and withering plants but through Christ we can worship God.
