SERMON NOTES
GOD BRINGS DOWN HIS ENEMIES
2 Kings 19:20-28; Revelation 6:1-17
– similar to Israel at the Red Sea; if God does not act, they perish
1. The mystery of prayer and predestination.
– 19:20 and 19:26; God responds to Hezekiah’s prayer and He acts according to His own predestined will. Both are true.
– Acts 4:27-28
2. God brings down those who blaspheme and boast.
– 19:21-24; this is Sennacherib boasting.
– He is defying the Holy One of Israel (19:22; an expression found 25 times in Isaiah)
– James 4:6
3. We reap what we sow.
– 19:27-28; this is precisely the way the Assyrians treated others; Gal.6:7-8
– this was actually delayed for 20 years so far as Sennacherib was concerned (19:37 took place in 681 B.C.). The delay illustrates God’s longsuffering in His wrath (Rom.9:22).
