Peter Barnes | 2 Kings 19:8-19
SERMON NOTES
GOD IS OUR REFUGE
2 Kings 19:8-19; Acts 4:1-31
– 19:8-13 is renewed mockery
1. Begin with praise.
– 19:14; see Ps.55:22
– 19:15; God’s being between the cherubim is not referring to God in heaven with the angels but God’s being present in the mercy seat (Ex.25:18; 1 Kings 6:23-28)
– Acts 4:24
2. Pray for deliverance.
– 19:16-19a; Acts 17:29
– in prayer, argue God’s character and His promises back to Him.
3. Pray for God’s glory in all the world.
– 19:19b; see also 1 Sam.17:45-46; 1 Kings 8:41-43
– Henry Martyn once heard of Jesus, supposedly in the fourth heaven, bowing down and clinging to the robes of Mohammed. He wept at this, and said: ‘I could not endure existence if Jesus was not glorified – it would be hell to me, if He were to be always thus dishonoured.’
