SERMON NOTES
THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD (Lev.23:6-8)
Exodus 12:14-20, 43-49; 1 Corinthians 5:1-13
– Lev.23 lists the weekly Sabbath plus seven annual feasts. We are looking to see Christ in them (Col.2:16-17). Exodus 12 gives us the detail about the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
1. We eat as pilgrims.
– Ex.12:11, 20; it was fleeing slavery to go to the Promised Land
– 1 Peter 2:11; Heb.11:13-16
– Rev.19:7-9; Thomas Watson: ‘The world is enough to busy us, but to fill us.’
2. We eat as saints.
– Ex.12:20; see Matt.16:1-2; Luke 12:1; 1 Cor.5:1, 6-8
– the sacrament is not magical; we must come with faith and holiness (1 Cor.11:18-21, 28, 33)
3. We eat in fellowship on the basis of redemption.
– Ex. 12:43-49; for Hezekiah, see 2 Chron.30:1-5, 11-12, 18-21; for Josiah, see 2 Chron. 35:1, 16-19.
– Ps.116:12-14
