Peter Barnes | 1 Samuel 12:1-25
SERMON NOTES
SAMUEL’S TESTIMONY
1 Samuel 12:1-25; Acts 4:1-12
– Samuel is the discerning one, like Spurgeon in the late nineteenth century.
1. Samuel’s faithfulness.
– 12:1-5; this is not self-righteousness, but a good conscience in old age.
– 12:23 – it would be sin not to pray and teach the Word.
2. God’s faithfulness.
– 12:6-12 – a history of God’s faithfulness and Israel’s waywardness.
– God speaks through a thunderstorm in May or June when there is normally no rain (12:16-19).
3. Our faithfulness.
– this is actually a call to Israel to be faithful, but it comes also to us.
– 12:20 – God’s grace is greater than our sin (Psalm 130:3-4, 7-8; Rom.5:20).
– 12:21-22, 24-25; this is what we are called upon to do.
