Peter Barnes | 1 Samuel 1:21-2:10
SERMON NOTES
A GODLY WOMAN’S PRAYER, PART 2
1 Samuel 1:21-2:10; Luke 1:46-56
– the seemingly insignificant is not as it seems (Luke 12:32).
1. God lifts up the lowly.
– 2:4-5, 8a; see 2:21; Ted Turner said that Christianity was for losers. Rejoice, for God saves losers!
– Luke 1:52-55
2. God is sovereign over all.
– 2:6-7; God is sovereign even over evil and death (see Deut.32:39)
– like Mary in Luke 1:46-47; Eph.1:11
– ‘My times are in Thy hands’ (Ps.31:15). This means that life is never in our control and never out of God’s control.
3. God gives victory to His king.
– 2:8b-10; Hannah speaks of a king before there is a king and of the anointed which means Messiah.
– Gen.49:10; Num.24:17
– like Mary except that Mary announces: ‘The king is here’.
