SERMON  NOTES
ENTERTAINING  ANGELS
Genesis  18:1-15;  Hebrews 13:1-16

Hebrews 13:2  is  obviously  referring  to  Genesis 18  where  Abraham  meets  three  men  who  turn  out  to  be  angels,  but  in  the  end,  are  probably  the  Lord  and  two  angels  (note Gen.18:22; 19:1)

1.  We  are  obliged  to  entertain  strangers.

-Hospitality  is  commanded  in  Matt.25:35, 40; Rom.12:13;  1 Pet.4:9

– note  also  1 Tim.3:2  for  the  elder;  if  Rahab  had  not  shown  hospitality,  she  would  have  perished  at  Jericho  (Josh.2)

– see  Gen.18:1-8

2.  Hospitality  is  not  to  be  given  in  order  to climb  the  social  ladder.

– Luke 14:12-14

3.  God  can  bless  a  simple  act  of  kindness  in  far-reaching  ways.

– Heb.13:2;  2 John 5-8

– Acts 16:15; 17:7;  21:8, 16;  Rom.16:23

– Matt.10:42
