THE FACT OF THE RESURRECTION
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Xerxes wept as he thought of universal death.
1. The resurrection of Christ is a crucial part of the gospel.
– 15:1-4; this is ‘first of all’ in importance
– John Bacon’s epitaph: ‘what I really was as a believer in Jesus Christ is the only thing of importance to me now.’
2. Proofs of the resurrection.
– 15:3-8
(a) according to the Scriptures; Psalm 22; Isa.53; Ps.16:10; Mark 8:31
(b) there were plenty of witnesses; Acts 26:22-23, 26; Deut.19:15
(c) a transformed life (15:9-10)
3. How to be saved.

– Bonhoeffer: ‘the fact that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead is the sole ground of my hope that I, too, will be raised on the day of judgment.’
