Peter Barnes | Romans 3:1-8
SERMON NOTES
ANY OBJECTIONS?
(Romans 3:1-8)
– Martyn Lloyd-Jones regards this as one of the most difficult sections in the whole of Scripture.
1. Is there any advantage in being in God’s covenant?
– 3:1-2; Jacob and Esau were both in the covenant but Jacob was chosen, not Esau (Gen.25:23); Esau still had real privileges.
2. Does our unfaithfulness prove that God has been unfaithful?
– 3:3-4; it would not matter what the statistics are, God is true.
– Psalm 51:4; if God had damned David, He would have been just
– Neh.9:32-33
3. Is God unjust?
– 3:5-6; Gen.18:25
– God is both just and merciful (Rom.3:25-26)
4. Does grace promote lawlessness?
– 3:7-8; Eph.1:6; some might hear of grace and think: ‘I can get drunk and still go to heaven.’
– Not so (Rom.6:1-2, 15; Jude 4)
