Peter Barnes | Romans 1:11-15
SERMON NOTES
ENCOURAGEMENT AND OBLIGATION
(Romans 1:11-15)
1. We ought to aim to encourage one another.
– 1:11-12; see Prov.11:25; 27:17
– same word ‘to strengthen’ in Luke 22:32
– 1 Cor.12:14-15, 20-21
– 1863-7 Abraham Kuyper was at Beesd where a peasant woman led him to know Christ
2. We are to be governed first by God’s demands, not His providence.
– 1:13; to see, to impart, to strengthen, to impart, to preach – that is what he is to do.
– God’s providence is out of Paul’s hands.
3. We are debtors to all humanity.
– 1:14-15; to those who could speak Greek and those who could not, to the wise and to the foolish
– 1 Cor.9:16
Happy, if with my latest breath
I may but gasp His Name;
Preach Him to all, and cry in death,
“Behold, behold the Lamb!’ (Charles Wesley)
