A  MOTH  AND  A  LION
Hosea  5:1-15;  Hebrews 10:26-39

1. God  is  like  a  moth  as  Israel  decays.

– 5:1  (priests,  people,  princes);  5:12

– decay  through  sexual  immorality  (5:3-4),  pride  (5:5),  religious  activity  without  faith  (5:6, 7, 11;  note  6:6;  see  too  5:4b  and  8:2);  land-grabbing  (5:10a;  Deut.27:17);  looking  to  the  pagans  for  help  (5:13)

2.  God  is  like  a  lion  as  Israel  is  punished.

– Isa.10:5;  God  is  behind  the  destruction  of  Israel  by  Assyria  in  722 B.C.

3.  Israel’s  only  hope  is  in  repentance.
