Peter Barnes | Hosea 4:1-6
SERMON NOTES
HEAR THE CHARGES!
Hosea 4:1-6; Romans 1:18-32
From the marriage image in Hosea 1-3 to the courtroom in Hosea 4.
1. God charges His people with sin.
– 4:1; we are meant to reflect the character of God (e.g. Ex.34:6-7; Ps.25:10; 86:15)
– 4:2 – more specific charges, as Israel breaks the Ten Commandments
2. Sin has consequences.
– 4:3; see Gen.3:17-18; Isa. 24:4-7; Rom.8:20-23
– sin has affected the natural world
3. Unbelief and rebellion begin with the clergy.
– 4:4-6; some difficulty with verse 4, but the section is aimed at the priests and prophets.
– Jer.2:8
