Peter Barnes | 2 Corinthians 7:5-7
SERMON NOTES
COMFORT IN GOOD NEWS
Proverbs 15:20-33; 2 Cor. 7:5-7
Proverbs 25:25; Paul was in Macedonia (probably Philippi) waiting for news of Corinth from Titus
1. Conflicts and fears are a part of the Christian life.
– 7:5 (‘flesh’) but in 2:13 (‘spirit’ rather than NIV’s ‘mind’)
– Eccles.3:1-8; there is to be a Christian resilience.
2. God often comforts His people using human means.
– 7:6-7 by Titus’ arrival
– in 1:4, 8-10 it was by circumstances (rescued from illness or, more likely, the riot of Acts 19 in Ephesus)
– Psalm 119:25
3. The Christian is to delight in every indication of spiritual growth.
– 5:6-7; in Gal.1:6; 4:19-20 he agonised over spiritual decline
– Psalm 94:19
