A HEAVY AND SINFUL HEART
Psalm 32:1-11; 1 John 1:1-10
– Augustine died in 430 with Psalm 32 posted on his wall
1. The blessing of forgiveness.
– 32:1-2; see Rom.4:5-8;
– death by law (Lev.20:10; Ex.21:12); life by the death of the suffering servant (Isa.53:6)
2. The burden of unconfessed sin.
– 32:3-4, 10; because the law of God is on all our hearts (Rom.2:15); and Eph.4:30 for the believer
– many false remedies
3. The breakthrough of confession.
– 32:5; Prov.28:13; 1 John 1:9; immediate forgiveness, not probation
– Augustine: ‘What we need is true confession, not false defence.’
4. The joy of renewed fellowship with God.
– 32:6-11 (prayer, teachableness, trust, praise)
