SERMON  NOTES
THE  TRUE  SHEPHERD
Ezekiel  34:1-31

1. Human  shepherds  fail.

– 34:1-10;  read  First  and  Second  Kings!

– they  looked  after  themselves  (34:2-3, 8),  they  neglected  the  needy  (34:4, 6),  and  they  left  the  flock  defenceless  (34:8-9;  see  Matt.9:36)

2.  The  Lord  is  the  true  shepherd.

– 34:11, 15  –  He  is  the  Lord;  34:23-24  –  He  is  David’s  Son;  He  is  the  divine  king,  Jesus.

– Luke 1:32-33;  John 10:11-15;  Isa.40:11

3. God  will  judge  His  people.

– 34:17-22;  not  all  Israel  is  Israel;  not  all  who  think  they  are  sheep  are  true  sheep.

4. God  will  make  a  covenant  of  peace.

– 34:25-31;  this  points  to  the  restoration  of  Judah  after  539 B.C.

– also  Col.1:20-22;  Eph.2:14, 17
