Peter Barnes | Judges 13
SERMON NOTES
SAMSON’S REMARKABLE BIRTH
(Judges 13)
– 13:1 – rebellion and repression. Israel is even hostile to the thought of rescue (15:9-12)
1. God saves when we cannot.
– like the birth of Isaac, Samuel, and John the Baptist (cf. Luke 1:13-17, 66, 76-80); these are extraordinary births but Christ’s is a unique birth.
– 13:3 is somewhat parallel to Ephesians 2:3-4
– Numbers 6 – no wine, no razor, no touching dead bodies.
2. God draws near to His people.
– twice the angel of the Lord appears; He is the Lord and His name is wonderful (see Ps.139:6)
– He makes Himself known to the weak and lowly
3. Fear God first, then trust His sacrifice.
– 13:22-23; note Ex.33:20
– cannot know grace without knowing a measure of fear first.
