Peter Barnes | Ezekiel 13
SERMON NOTES
FALSE PROPHETS AND WHITEWASHED WALLS
Ezekiel 13; Matthew 7:1-6, 13-23
– test all things (1 Thess.5:21); Ezekiel deals with false prophets (13:1-16) and false prophetesses (13:17-23)
1. False teachers make up their own message.
– 13:1-3, 6-7; Jer.23:21-22
– like jackals (13:4-5; Song of Songs 2:15); to impersonate a police officer is an offence; worse to impersonate a prophet
– Matt.7:15; Rev.2:14-15, 20
2. False teachers encourage a false sense of security.
– 13:8-16; the good news starts with facing the bad news (Matt.4:17)
– no substance, just hollow; everything is back to front (13:9, 22)
3. False teachers will face the judgment of God.
– 13:8, 15, 17, 20; Augustine had been a Manichaean, then when he became a Christian, he tried to convert people he had talked into becoming Manichaeans.
– James 3:1; Ezek.13:23
