SERMON ILLUSTRATIONS OF JUDGMENT
Ezekiel 4:1-5:4; 2 Kings 25:1-21
– see Matt.22:17-21 and Acts 21:10-11 for visual aids
1. Jerusalem will be besieged.
– 4:1-3 by God! (5:8, 11)
– look at Ezekiel 8 and we see why
2. Ezekiel bears the sin of Israel and Judah.
– 4:5-8; not continuous lying down because in 8:1 he is sitting.
– 390 years probably from the split in the kingdom in 931 B.C. (cf. 1 Kings 12); 40 years for Judah may be approximate, from 587 to 539 B.C.
– 430 may look to the time of bondage in Egypt (Ex.12:40-41)
3. There will be terrible famine conditions in the siege.
– 4:9-17; see 5:10; Lam.4:10
– same in the Ukraine in the 1930s (Robert Conquest, Harvest of Sorrow)
4. Suffering would come by famine, warfare, and exile.
– 5:1-4; appears a fool (1 Cor.4:10)
