Peter Barnes | Ezekiel 2:1-7
SERMON NOTES
THE COMMISSIONING OF EZEKIEL
Ezekiel 2:1-8; 1 Corinthians 4:1-13
1. We ought to recognise our utter dependence on God.
– 1:28b-2:2; ‘Son of Man’ means the king in God’s kingdom in Daniel 7:13-14, but here it means just ‘man’ as in Numbers 23:19; Job 25:5-6; Psalm 144:3-4.
– Jim Elliot said that a missionaries were ‘just a bunch of nobodies trying to exalt Somebody’.
2. We are called to be faithful.
– 2L3-7; the danger is fear (see Jer.1:8, 17)
– our first task is not to be successful or popular but faithful (Josh.24:14-15; Isa. 6:9-10; 1 Cor.4:1-2)
– Luke 6:26
– William Wilberforce: ‘Having heard all of this you may choose to look the other way but you can never again say that you did not know.’ See Acts 20:26-27
3. We are to be people of the Book.
– 2:5, 7-8; Rev.10:9-11
