Peter Barnes | Ephesians 6:14-15
SERMON NOTES
TRUTH, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND PEACE
(Ephesians 6:14-15)
– 1 Thess. 5:8; 2 Tim. 2:3
1. We need the belt of truth.
– 6:14a; Isa. 11:5; probably not the Scriptures as they are mentioned in Eph. 6:17
– Eph. 4:25; Ps. 51:6
– call to be ready as in 1 Kings 18:46; Luke 12:35
2. We need the breastplate of righteousness.
– 6:14b; Isa. 59:17
– despite Bunyan, there was a back covering.
– imputed righteousness in Phil. 3:8-9; Isa. 61:10
– but Calvin emphasises imparted righteousness
3. We need the sandals of the gospel of peace.
– 6:15; Isa. 52:7; both mobility and stability (the sandals had studs on them)
– peace in Rom. 5:1; Martin Luther in 1521: ‘Here I stand, I can do no other.’
