Peter Barnes | Psalm 103 (part 2)
SERMON NOTES
Grace to Fragile People
Psalm 103; Luke 15:11-32
– vv.1-5 are personal and in the singular; vv.6-22 are more general and in the plural.
1. God righteous mercy.
– God is righteous (v.6; note Ps.130:3) but merciful too.
(a) His mercy is as high as the heavens are above the earth (v.11).
(b) His mercy removes sin as far the east is from the west (v.12).
(c) His mercy is like a father’s pity for his children (v.13). Philip Yancey’s father, dying of polio in a lung machine, prayed for the baby whom he would never really know.
2. We are frail and feeble.
– vv.14-16; Gen.1:26 and 2:7; see Psalm 102:11-12
3. All creation ought to praise the Lord for His victory.
– vv.17-22
